Context

Agri-food industries generate large volumes of side streams. Filamentous fungi can convert them into proteins, enzymes and other valuable compounds.

Approach

Strains from the BCCM Plant Fungi collection were screened for growth and productivity on selected substrates under controlled cultivation conditions.

Results

Several strains showed strong growth and high yields, making them promising candidates for scale-up.

Key outcomes

  • Strains matched to specific substrates
  • Reproducible cultivation protocols
  • Candidates ready for pilot-scale trials
